How the Award Works
The IB-Green Award recognizes measures in five fields of action:
Implementing green infrastructure on company premises offers numerous benefits for climate resilience. By integrating elements such as green facades, fences, and roofs, as well as planting trees, you can effectively manage stormwater, reduce the urban heat island effect, and enhance biodiversity. Moreover, a greener working environment increases employee satisfaction―and impresses customers or clients!
Implementing blue infrastructure on company premises provides significant benefits for climate resilience. By incorporating features such as rainwater harvesting systems, constructed wetlands, and retention ponds, businesses can efficiently manage water resources and reduce flood risks. These measures not only help mitigate the impacts of heavy rainfall and droughts, but also enhance water quality and support local ecosystems. Blue infrastructure contributes to a more sustainable water cycle, promotes biodiversity, and can reduce operational costs associated with water use and stormwater management.
Reducing/Adapting grey infrastructure on company premises offers substantial benefits for climate resilience. By minimizing traditional concrete and asphalt surfaces, businesses can decrease surface runoff, lower flood risks, and mitigate the urban heat island effect. This approach allows for more natural infiltration of rainwater, reducing the strain on stormwater systems and enhancing groundwater recharge. Replacing grey infrastructure with green or blue alternatives, such as permeable pavements, green spaces, and water management systems not only improves environmental health, but also creates more pleasant, energy-efficient, and sustainable workplaces.
To enhance climate
resilience on company premises and maximize environmental and social benefits,
it is crucial that measures are interlinked in a strategic manner. Combining
nature-based solutions such as green roofs with rainwater infiltration and
storage systems can achieve this. By focusing on nature-based solutions, these
measures will also promote biodiversity and well-being of the workforce.
The transformation towards climate resilient industrial and business areas (IBPs) can only succeed if the workforce is actively involved in the process. Their commitment and support are crucial to the long-term success of these measures. INVOLVING the workforce achieves ecological goals, raises awareness of climate change issues and strengthens commitment to sustainable behaviour. The implementation of green and blue infrastructure (GBI) on company premises represents a strategic approach to enhance climate resilience while promoting a healthier work environment.
To qualify, you must have implemented at least
three measures from two fields of action on your company premises.
